Default Kitchen Scale

I've been in the market for a digital kitchen scale for a while. I'd been using a rinky-dink little mechanical thing I got 30 years ago when I joined Weight Watchers (lasted one meeting, hated being lectured). I had to calibrate it by putting a square of baking chocolate on it and adjusting it to 1 ounce.

Anyway, the electronic kitchen scales I looked at were either gimmicky or really expensive (I'd settled on one that cost $129). Then AngelaR told me she got a postal scale at Staples (Business Depot). So last night I took a look and found a nice compact Sunbeam for around $65 (CDN). It's perfect. It measures to 1 gram or .1 ounce, it calibrates when you turn it on, so if you can put a container on first, it will start at 0, and it turns itself off after 30 seconds.

I am having so much fun--especially since I discovered that the macadamias I'd been using averaged 28 to the ounce--I'd been using 20 because that's all that would fit on my old scale.

Susan
