Default TVP

Hello everyone!

On impulse I bought some TVP from the bulk section
of my local Health Food Store -- I know that it is
made from soy protein -- but they were unable to
give me any nutritional info on it. Can anyone tell me about this. This one is unflavored. Any recipe suggestions would be appreciated!

I have a recipe here: TVP Pilaf that has the carb count.

The TVP I've bought has been Bob's Red Mill TVP and it has the whole breakdown on the package. It was months ago, though!

The stores that have bulk bins are supposed to (by law) be able to provide the nutritional info on the products... which usually means they must (and will) ask their distributor to provide it (or get it from the big big bag or box in the back room).

I had this same situation (different product) once and the Store Manager faxed the distributor and had an answer back a day later...

Give that a try with any mystery bulk product.

PPS: TVP counts vary by the manufacturer, so it might be best to go to the effort to get the info.

From way back in March, a discussion on TVP. Gotta love the Search Feature on the forum!

Thanks for the help with the TVP!

I took your advice Judi, and the store managed to
get the nutritional information for me. Seems this particular one comes in at 16 c/cup. A little high for everyday use I'm thinking, but I
will probably try to make turkey stuffing with it
come Christmas time.

Thanks again everyone!
