Default Chewing gum

I'm new to the forum, so forgive me is this has been discussed before. I chew gum all day long at work. I like the sugarfree stuff bc it keeps my mouth busy and then chew a strawberry-flavored sugar-free one after lunch to take care of the sweet tooth. Anyone know if this is okay or if there are any hidden pitfalls to chewing lots of gum?

Thanks!

Well it was suggested to me, not to chew gum if i can do without. Though the gum is sugar free, it contains malitol. They say that is not good for ya, and it can have something to do with stalling. But though I do not chew it all the time anymore, I still have a couple of peices a day.. but I think it may be individual choice. I have no probs when I chew the gum that I do, but I can see it not being all that good if it is being consumed constatly, plus you do need to count each piece as 1 carb.. and eating alot takes carbs away from elsewhere. Just my two cents....just watch and see if it is hindering your weightloss at all, or if it is not.. all up to the individual... hope this helps have a good one

I chew gum, not as often as you do, but I do like a piece after lunch to help with that need for a sweet. I feel like it has helped me, not hindered my progress.

This is one of those "your mileage may vary" things, everyone is different. What works for you may not work for someone else.

Good luck to you!

Most sugar free gums in the UK don't use malitol. They use isomalt, sorbitol or one of the other sugar alcohols most of which have a lower GI than malitol.

I think you can chew sf gum in moderation without it making any difference.

And it's great for the health of your teeth! Only if it's sugar free, though. My dentist is very excited about the properties of sf gum and how the sugar alcohols kill off cavity causing bacteria!

I have stacks of sf gum for my kids to chew, too. I've totally weaned them from sugared gum and reduced my dental bills.

Default I haven't noticed any problems with SF gum

I chew fairly often and haven't felt like it's hurt anything. In fact, if I'm craving something sweet, a stick of SF gum usually takes the edge off. They do make some gums with sucralose, which really excited me. Orbit gum has Splenda (along with sorbitol, malitol, yada yada yada), but only certain flavors.

I also suggest using flavored teas as a sweet treat. I get one I love called "Bengal Spice" by Celestial Seasonings. Then I put a bit of splenda in it. It's awesome.

I am loving my iced tea, too! My favorite is country peach passion (celestial seasonings). I recently bought a single-serve coffee/tea maker -- it's so convenient to be able to make freshly brewed iced tea by the glass in 60 seconds.
