Thumbs down Scale at Doctors Office Sucks!

I had a doctor's appoinment today to check my BP and Cholesterol. Well BP came back excellent. Cholesterol has to be done tomorrow cause I had to fast and didn't know it.

Anyways, he didn't weigh me so when he left office for a moment I weighed myself. I know you can fluctuate but gees this was ridiculous. Scale showed me nearly 30 pounds heavier than I actually am. I know my scale at home is right, it's working and has new batteries.

I ran home, weighed myself and I was only up 5 pounds. Which is fine cause I had breakfast and it was 12 noon already. Why would the doctor's scale show such a big difference?

I'm still going by my own scale but it's frustrating and it angered me.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

My doctors scale sucks too! I asked if I could weigh myself before visits on my own scale to save my sanity. Thankfully she said yes.

I don't trust my MD's scale either; it's like comparing the clock in my bedroom to a clock at the bus station across town - they're always going to be off from each other.

I check my scale periodically by weighing a dumbbell - it's always right on target.

Hi Lily,

I have experienced the same exact thing at my doctors office. It's hard to say which is more accurate since the way it is done in the doctors office, sliding that little led weight back and forth on the bar until it levels out at dead center may not be as accurate as you might think. I remember last time I was on this WOE, I had celebrated reaching my goal of 200lbs and awarded myself with a couple of cold Corona Lights. A few days later I went to the doc and was blown away when I stepped on the scale. It had me up 20lbs and I am sure it wasn't the Corona.

The way I look at it is as long as your scale at home shows you are steadily losing weight and you are feeling good about it, why worry what the doctors scale says?

I told my doctor that he needed to spend some of that bundle he charges on a new scale. He laughed bigtime and said, "Your probably right."

Thanks Jerzee, your right, I am happy with the loss I've had so far. I feel great and I'm starting to look good again.

It was just upsetting seeing such a large number again when I had already said SEE YA to that number. You know!

Oh, I completely understand you disappointment, but you are doing great Lily. Just look at the awsome progress you have made so far! Keep up the good work and don't let a stupid scale get you bummed.

That happened to me when I was pregnant... I weighed myself everyday at home.... Went to my weekly drs appt, said I was 20 lbs heavier.... I told them NO WAY.... there is no way I gained 20 lbs in one week... Those slide scales can be very inaccurate... I know...I used to work for a scale company. You are doing great.... Maybe you should bring your scale with you tomorrow...

Keep in mind that the scales in an MD's office are used multiple times a day and are more often than not, only calibrated once a year (if they are honest and keep up on the maintenence). Many of them do not calibrate them - EVER.
I wouldn't pay nearly as much creedence to the scale at the MD office. It is aggrivating though- the numbers stay in your chart forever. *

Maybe the Dr. knows his scale is wrong since he did not weigh you?

Cheeze that's funny. Or maybe he was being kind.

My DH said that they sometimes don't calibrate them often.

Oh well, I'm not gonna fuss over it anymore. I believe my scale.

Oh Lily,

That sux! Like everyone else says, forget about. I know if it were me, I'd be devastated, so I really feel for you.

Know what? Do what I just did - go look at the pictures you've posted. You have done so awesome! And you are " " this close to Onederland! I can't tell you how much it helps me to look at your pics and read your stats.

Hugs!

Pam

Thanke Blulady,

That's so sweet of you.

But it's your stats I want.

Cheers,
