Default Is this to high....

My husband had his appointment with his endocro. doctor today and his blood
work is as follows;
hdl--.83
ldl--2.74
total cholesteral 5.27
triglycerides 3.74

My husband is already on lipidor and gemfibrozil for cholesteral. What can he
do to increase his HDL. He weight 184lbs and is 5'11". This is a great
improvement from when his trig were over 15 and cholesteral was 9. The doctor
still wants lower blood results and my husband doesn't want to increase meds.
Any advice?

Is your husband low carbing? If not, I would strongly recommend he does so.

How much exercise does he get? Increasing exercise increases HDL. So does eating things such as nuts, avocado, olive oil and fish.
He could also help things by taking fish oil capsules - 1 or 2 three times daily - with meals.

Cheers.

hi rosebud, thank's for your reply. Yes my husband has been low carbing for
almost a year and lost at 35pounds.He's on maintenance and does eat yogurt
nuts and fish. As for exercise that's a problem. He has a office job and sits all
day. His doctors have told him he should exercise to help strengthen his
heart muscle(he has cardiomyopathy,CHF(twice)). He takes a cupfull of
vitamins every day eg lcarnitine, coq10, taurine cal&mag, b100, and fish oil
capsules (EPA/DHA) even before his endo doctor told him to start taking them.
As for olive oil we get cases sent to us directly from his brother in laws olive
trees from Greece so we have plenty of that in just about everything.
He's come a long way in his blood profile and he is trying. thanks for your
help if you have any more ideas please let me know.
P.S. before he started Atkins he was afraid to eat eggs, bacon etc because
his trig and chol were so high, but eating this way brought his blood profile
down. His doctors were pleasantly surprised and tell us NOW to keep doing what
he his doing because it worked. They are now warming up to Atkins way of eating. He's only 47years old and wants to be around along time.
