Cool

i'll take a stab,
simply put, it's to get your muscle stores so depleted that it's response after the workout is for maximal absorption of the incoming carbs that you're about to ingest immediately afterwards and the following day or so. I can't remember the term right off the top of my head but it's in the book "BodyOpus". Super composition or something like that!?!? I'll check when I get home.

The idea is to drive every last molecule of glycogen out of your muscles in the last few hours before your carb up. This creates a sort of 'vaccuum effect' which will supercompensate by flooding the muscles with extra glycogen once you start with the carbs. If you look among the sticky links at the top of the forum, you will find specific work outs, but here's the short version.

Take every muscle group to failure in a circuit.
Lower the weight and do it again.
Lower the weight and do it again.
Lower the weight and do it again.
Lower the weight and do it again.

Passing out or barfing may seem like attractive options at this point, but try to hold it together until you can stagger out of the gym and start your carb up.

Cheers,

Friday

and make sure you hit all your muscle groups - these need to be full-body workouts.

"Jelly" is the word I use to describe my muscles a few hours after depletion. EVERYTHING is too heavy to lift/move and too hard to open/carry. It's great fun!

Enjoy!
