Question Targeted Loss

I have been exercising for about 3 weeks now and am feeling great. I am losing inches everywhere, but it is REALLY noticable in my upper thighs and chest. My belly on the other hand seems to be the slowest to down size.

Can anyone give me some advice to help target that area of my body?

I'm with you. My belly hasn't changed much at all. My thighs and hips are both lots smaller though. I have heard alot of people say the belly is last to go. I only have 24 more pounds to go so I hope I start to see something happen soon!!!

There is no way to "spot reduce" fat from a certain area. The only way to reduce the size of your belly to is to continue losing bodyfat. Eventually your body will start removing it from there as well

mrschmelz is right on that you can't 'spot reduce'. you have to continue doing aerobics to melt overall body fat, and then to tone the area crunches and oblique twists and 'bycicles', what i call them anyway, are best...that's the only way to do it...and, of course, stay away from those carbs and drink lots of water! that 's about it...

fat loss comes from all over - rather like peeling layers off an onion - so in some areas you will notice it earlier than others - there is no spot reduction.

Somewhere in one of the threads is a link to a site that discusses this very issue.

Roughly paraphrased, you will lose weight between your knees and your bellybutton LAST! By the time you get to losing the last of your stubborn middle body fat, your face may look too thin for your liking...don't worry. Once you reach your goal weight, your body will do some re-distributing of your (healthy) fat stores and you will see your face smooth out a bit and the tummy slim down a bit, and that re-distribution takes weeks to finish.

That said, especially if you are using walking or running as your cardio, your legs and tushie will firm up wonderfully, making them look much better even if you are still carrying a big layer of fat. My mantra: fat with muscle under it always looks better than fat all alone!

IMO one of the best "shaping" cardios is HIIT on stairs. It hits all of the muscles in the lower body hard enough to make them grow. A lot of times hamstrings/butt/calves can be neglected, or not worked as hard in cardio as the quads, but they do very nice things to your figure. Gotta love the short shorts and mini skirts Who notices your slightly soft belly when you've got show stopping legs and glutes?
