This is my first post, but my 5th attempt at Atkins in the last 2 yrs. I have success with weight loss but quit after only a couple of weeks because of severe nausea and even vomiting. This only happens when I eat low carb. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm assuming this is from too much fat and my gallbladder can't handle it but I don't want to give up on the lc diet.

I had nausea for the first week or so both times I started Atkins too. I could eat low fat or high fat meals, and it wouldn't make a difference. When I wasn't on Atkins I rarely ate meat, so I think my stomach couldn't handle the lack of carbs. Last time I started, I nibbled on a carrot when I had really bad nausea and it helped. Were you a big meat eater before this, arb428?

I was never a real big meat eater and that's probably what the problem is. I usually eat a cracker or something with a few carbs and feel better but I just wondered if anyone else was having that same problem. I know so many people who have great success on lc diets and I want to have the same success also. I'm the only person I know who's stomach has problems on it, unfortunately. I will try to eat less red meat and more chicken. Thanks to all who replied.

I had nausea my first week and found it went away by just adding a very small amount of carbs back in for a couple days.

Thanks for the advice. That's what I've been doing and it has worked so far--one week today and I've lost 4 lbs. so I'm happy and motivated to keep going.

What has worked for me so far when I get sick to my stomach is to eat a small amount of carbs, whether it be nuts or a saltine cracker and that helps. I know you're not supposed to eat any flour the first two weeks, but it helps me to stick with the diet if I'm not sick all the time and it hasn't hurt my weight loss any. Plus I only eat one and that works for me to take the nausea away. I haven't had diarrhea yet, but if I eat a lot of greasy meat or red meat in a day I have to go a lot more than normal. Try to eat a little less fat and see if that, too, will help. Your body probably isn't used to so much fat, at least mine wasn't.

Hi arb. This thread has some good info on gall bladder (rather, lack thereof) and low carbing.

I was also having problems with having to go constantly. I mean within 10 minutes of eating I was back in the bathroom, I began to wonder if it was worth it but today which is my 8th day on Atkins that problem stopped. I have talked with several people on Atkins and they all say they had this problem at first but that it stops after a few days, so hang in there I am sure it will get better.
