Hi everyone, after one week I have lost 8 lbs. I've read Atkins and I'm supposed to be doing CAD. But I seem to be making my own things up along the way and it's been working. I'm eating high protein and low carb. I do indulge in a protein bar for breakfast ( I hate eggs) after 2 days of scrambled eggs I was ready to go back to cereal etc. But I'm determined this time. I haven't noticed the weight loss in my body but I have noticed that my arthritis hasn't been no where near as painful and my hands are not swollen anymore.
A normal day for me is:
BF Protein bar, coffee black, and water.

Lunch Salad coffee and water

Supper Any kind of meat about palm size, potato, salad and veggies.

Snack Rolled up bologna, with sandwich sliced yum yum pickles .

I need to work on getting more fruit in my diet. I really miss that, I used to live on fruit, especially grapes after I quit smoking.

Anyway good luck to everyone, I'm enjoying the post and seeing how everyone is different in dealing with their "obstacles".

Hi and welcome!

Congrats on your success so far! Just a quick word of caution: Atkins and CAD make a poor combination. They're almost opposites: the key to Atkins is keeping your carbs very low, but you can eat as much as you want, whenever you're hungry. CAD is the opposite: your times and portions are strictly controlled, then you can go a loose on the carbs at the RM. So be careful not to start treating it like "Atkins with a reward meal."

Don't worry about the fruit: you don't need it. You get all the fiber and nutrients you need from veggies, minus the sugar. Remember: half the vegetables we eat are actually fruit, anyway, we just don't call them fruit because they're not sweet. Tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, peppers, avacadoes... all fruit, technically.

If you are missing the sweet fruit, stick with berries. Eat the sugary stuff in low quantities only, preferably after a protein meal to slow down the sugar absorption.

Best of luck!

Thumbs up Brandygirl

Hi Brandy---and welcome---I totally agree with what Kristine told you. One other thing you might keep in mind- 1 potatoe is about 44.4 grams carbohydrate. That is over twice the carbs allowed on Atkins induction. Whether you stay on Atkins, Carb Addicts, etc. I suggest that you do your measurements weekly. For me, when I am not losing weight--I am usually losing inches. That helps me from becoming fixated on the scale. Good luck - and congratulations for doing something good for yourself. Aleka
