Hi everybody,

I'm from Beaumont, TX area. I originally started on Atkins in 11/03, however, with the holidays I took a short breather. Since that time, I am having a very hard time refocusing. I have lost 10 lbs total. Not as great as I wanted. It seems that the more the low carb products are available the harder it is to follow the strict induction. I am welcoming support particularly regarding following a strict induction. Help me focus here and do this right. I've got a question on sugar alcohols (yes I am reading the DANDR, I just haven't found my answer yet) which are good, which are bad, what effect do the have (don't they slow down the weight loss)? I appreciate all feedback.

Hi there Shabore, welcome!

Personally, I think you are best to avoid products containing sugar alcohols during Induction. If you have another look at DANDR, he really says to only use low carb bars for "emergencies" - if there is no LC food available. I think those kind of emergencies can usually be avoided with planning. And low carb candy has no place in Induction. If you are craving sweet things (and many of us do), try taking some L-Glutamine. Dr Atkins suggests 500 to 1000mg 3 times daily, ½ hour before meals.

If you'd like more information on sugar alcohols, go to Low Carb Tips on the orange bar at the top of the screen. You'll find lots of other helpful info there too.

Cheers.

Rosebud

Best to avoid the sugar alcohols and stick to "regular" foods during induction. Many of these frankenfoods cause people to stall.

Hang in there!
