Hi!

I was wondering if I can post here. My starting weight was 226 when I started losing. I didn't start Atkins until I hit 190. I'm currently 158 and my goal is 125. That would be a loss of 101 lbs. Just not sure if I can post here or not...

I'm down 68 lbs, with 33 left.

Also, is my goal a little unrealistic? I was 125-135 in high school and college but have always been an exerciser and am sure I've added muscle. Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Emily

Hi, and welcome!

I think once you get there, your body will decide what weight it is healthy at. That's the beauty of low carb... you'll loose weight until you don't need to loose more, and you won't loose PAST your healthy weight.

I'm 5'8" and pretty well muscled from my warehouse jobs, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to loose past 175, even though I'd like to. I've got a pretty high LBM (nearly 155 pounds).

If you can get your body fat measured, you'll have a better idea!

Another thing to think about at goal is that you are DENSER when you low carb.
I got down to what I used to weigh, and found myself a size smaller! Bonus!

You know, I noticed this too. I never really thought about it until now.
Two things come to mind:

*Low-carb, high-fat is protein/muscle sparing, so you lose more fat and less muscle than you do on low-calorie
*Low-carb drops bloat, so you don't feel so "squishy".

What you say TOTALLY makes sense!

Oh, and Tiger - you might be relieved to hear that we don't ALL do that.
Ouch! Sounds painful!

Of course you're welcome here! Glad to have you! See how you feel as you approach your goal--you may be happier than you think after losing only another 10 pounds or so. I question my goal as well--at 5'9" I don't know if I'll get to 150. Remember--it's just a number. How you feel and how your clothes fit is a much better judge than the scale!

I agree with KnitGirl.
1. You are most definately welcome here. We never turn a way a big looser!

2. Wait to see how you feel as you approach goal. I wouldn't worry so much about the number on the scale as much as how you look and feel.

Welcome aboard and congratulations on your success so far!

Hey thanks everyone! I guess I'll have to see how it goes. I don't want to kill myself trying to get to 125, but it would be amazing to get there. I also want to be okay with it if I don't, you know.

I thought being involved in the TDC would help motivate me whether I can get there or not!

Couple questions though:

1) How do I measure my body fat and lean mass?
2) If I don't cross that 100# mark, do I get kicked out?

Thanks again!

Emily

I dont' think the rules here are all that strict. If you need to be here and you end up losing less than a 100, I really do not think anyone would ask you to not post here anymore !!! This group was set up for those of us with more to lose as we have differant needs than people only losing a few pounds. There are differant issues we sometimes need to discuss and it helps to have others that understand.
I wish I could help you on the measuring but I have no doubt some one wiser than me on that subject will be happy to help you out !!
Glad you joined us and look forward to watching your progress !!! Stephie

Gosh, I hope not! Even though I have a number as a goal, I know that I will reevaluate it as I get closer, so I'm not sweating it.

The support here from others who understand our particular issues is outstanding! Welcome!

I sneak in here and read regularly and even post now and then. No one has yelled at me yet. (I could change my goal weight, but I would be a skeleton if I made it that far )

Ckeck this link for a body fat calculator

http://www.muscletech.com/CALCULATO...alculator.shtml

I just discovered that this is not the link I thought it was. This should do it

Thanks guys! I think aiming a little further on my goal will help me get further than I may have otherwise.

Thanks for the link Lindy! I'll check it out!

Have a great weekend!

You wont lose past a healthy weight? Who told you this? Bodybuliders use a low carb diet all the time to go below a healthy weight all the time down to 3-6% bf and believe me thats not healthy when theres no fat on the bottoms of ur feet and it hurts to walk

I agree with everyone here. I set my goal at 165 for now because I remember a time after my daughter was born and I weighed about that and felt better than I did when I weighed 130-140 before I was pregnant.
I definately want 100 gone and to stay gone.... but I'm shooting for the 165 to give myself room to play with. We'll see how I feel when I get there.
You've done so well so far... what an inspiration for the rest of us who are at different stages of weight loss.
