Question Blood tests to request

I'm doing Atkins and going to see my PCP on Wednesday. I'd like to know if there are any specific blood tests I should ask for, other than cholesterol. I have MS and am asking for B12 uptake test, but wasn't sure if I should ask for anything specific since I'm doing this WOL. Thanks!

Hi Lisa!

Dr Atkins suggests blood chemistry as well as lipids (cholesterol). He also mentions the possibility of a glucose tolerance test (to diagnose diabetes) but blood glucose would be measured routinely in the chemistry, so I would think it would only need to be done if your blood glucose were elevated.

Cheers, Lisa.

I'd also ask for a thyroid panel if your loss has slowed at all. Make sure you get your LDL and HDL broken out, as well as total cholesterol and triglycerides. When the results come back, press them for the exact numbers on all this (for some reason, many US docs hate to do this...it's a weird control issue.)

best of luck! hope the appt. goes well.

Default Is there a specific Thyroid Test?

I will be sure to ask for numbers, and have them sent to me. Hubby sees another doctor at the same clinic and he received a computer print out, I always get a handwritten note. It's nice to have the "personal touch" but this is one time I'd prefer to see the print. I wasn't sure if there was a more specific thyroid test I should ask for. Thanks for all the insight!
