Default Problem w/Atkins Essential Oils

Has anyone else had this problem? I got a bottle of the Atkins Essential Oils supplements. I would take them. A little later, when I would burp, I would get this fishy taste in my mouth. The thought of it makes me wretch. I stopped taking those supplements. I still take Basic #3, without a problem.

YES! I have gotten this nasty old oil taste and so has a friend of mine also on Atkins. I don't know if there's any way to fix it. Those oil capsules must get digested funny.

To me it's a taste like oil that's gone bad smells when heated. Don't know if anyone knows that smell. bleh!

I still take em though... doesn't bother me that much.

Hi there,

I take fish oil capsules that used to give me those icky fishy burps. But I now only take the enteric coated ones and I have no problem. The enteric coating means that they get digested further down than your stomach - hence no fishy aftertaste.

HTH

Rosebud, is there a brand of enteric coated oil capsules that I should be taking in lieu of the Atkins Essential Oils? Should I be looking for a fish oil-based one or a seed oil-based one?

Default Oil

I take some fish oil a few times a week. At times, it does come back to haunt you. haha. If you take them with food the effect seems minimized.

A word of advice though. Purchase supplements where you can get a bargain. Sam's Club, if you're in the USA. Or Walmart. They all use the same ingredients. I just take a vitamin, occasionally some fish oil, and sometimes potassium. I just don't seem to need anthing else now.

Good Luck!

Hi Paradise,

Unfortunately I can't help you with brands, because what's available here is almost certainly not available there.

I would suggest you see what is in the essential oils apart from fish oil, and if you can, buy it separately. Although you may not need it. Depends why you are taking it I guess. I have seen several different brands of enteric coated fish oil caps here - I suspect it's just a matter of looking (in pharmacies and health food shops - and the places Teuthis mentioned).

I do know that the enteric coated fish oil caps are available in the US - I first knew of their existence from American members on this board.

As for fish oil versus flaxseeds, I think that boils down to a matter of opinion. I take the fish oil because my cholesterol was high.

As Teuthis says, are you sure you need this at all? I think a multivitamin is helpful, otherwise the only really essential supplements (IMHO) are calcium and magnesium - taken together in a 2:1 cal:mag ratio with a total of 1000mg calcium daily (unless you are post menopausal, then it's 1500) - and some potassium. You may be getting sufficient potassium from food, unless you are having feelings of muscle weakness.

Cheers, Paradise, I hope I haven't confused you further.

Rosebud
