Default Taco Salad

Does anyone has a recipe for taco salad? This would be low carb wouldn't you think?

Thumbs up taco

When I make tacos for my kids, I usually make a taco salad for myself. Very Simple. I put a cup of chopped lettuce on a plate, top it with the taco meat, then cheese and 2 tablespoons of hot salsa. The salsa and taco seasoning have carbs but not alot. You could be more creative than me and add sour cream, maybe a few black olives, green onions, and avacado.

I make a similar salad, and I found some tortilla chips at the health food store that use canola oil instead of hydrogenated oil. So the chips are my carb in the meal. I also have made it without the chips and used beans in the salad as my carb. I always use plenty of sour cream.

Beans as a carb....good idea.
I made taco salad last night and used taco seasoning. It wasnt until after dinner that I noticed the seasoning has 4 carbs per serving. Do I count these?
I'll have to be more careful in the future about these hidden carbs. Live and learn I guess.

I would count them just because you don't know what the source of the carbs is...my guess is some kind of sugar though (malodextrin, dextrose?)...I don't usually worry too much but it depends on where you are in your weight loss and whether you feel you can handle the extra carb load.

i think the carbs are from corn flour added to the taco seasoning.

Hi, Skipper! I would season the meat with the basics of taco seasoning mix sans all the salt! I would use chile powder, cumin, garlic and onion powder. You could experiment with the flavors you like the most, cumin is so good!

Hope this helps!

Taco Salad is my favorite.
I make a dressing with Avocado, sour cream, garlic and lime juice. I discovered that a good taco salad needs a kick so I also add a good salsa. I use romaine, white cheddar, rinsed and drained kidney beans, (just a little) shredded carrots, green onion, black olives and I skip the tortilla chips. I season my meat with garlic, cumin, red pepper flakes and onions. I also add a bit of salt. (My only Schwarzbein sin.) (You could use, hamburger, chopped steak, chiken or ground turkey or ground chicken)

Bon Appetite!

I use a recipe for taco seasoning that I made up and I keep it in a spice bottle in the cupboard with all my other spices to have on hand to use when I want. I am happy to share it with you!

TACO SEASONING

Combine equal parts of these spices: I started with 1 tsp. each of these when I first tried it to see if I liked it or not.

Garlic Powder
Chili Powder
Paprika
Oregano Powder
Cumin Powder
Onion Powder
Black Pepper

Best of Luck to you!
Linda
