Default Is it normal to feel light pain in the kidney area?

Hi All,
since my 4th day of induction I have a constant light pressure in my kidney area.
Has anyone experienced the same? What could this symptom mean?
Besides I feel a terrible weakness in my legs when walking a little with my dog.
Thanks Burgess

Hi Burgess,

I never experienced kidney pain, and haven't seen many posts about it. Are you drinking lots of water?

I recently took my daughter to the doctor for what we thought was kidney pain but it turned out to be sore muscles from wearing some new high-heeled shoes that she wasnt used to. So I guess it could be muscular from exercise too if you have been doing anything new.

Obviously, though, you should check with your doctor no matter what, don't you think?

Liz

Im sure more people will chime in here momentarily -

If you've had this for several days and it's either getting worse or not getting better, it's best to see your doc.

If you're not having any trouble urinating....no pain, burning, etc....it's not likely that it's an infection....BUT, if it is an infection it MUST be treated properly or you risk damaging your kidney.

If it's in the kidney area and you're also having weakness in your leg it sounds to me like it's more likely that it's your back causing problems. If it's a simple muscle pull it should be gone, or at least deminished, in 4-5 days. BUT, if you're having weakness, tingling, other symptoms it could be caused by nerve compression due to a disc problem.

In any case, I'd recomend seeing your doc. I'd ratehr see you go and find out it's something minor than not go and find out it's serious.

Edited to add that pain is never normal. Pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong.

The kidneys are located above the waist and to the sides. Kidney pain radiates outward to the sides of the ribcage .. the so-called flank area. If you're experiencing low back pain, it's not kidney related and more likely to be muscle strain of some kind, as the others have noted.

Please have a read through this post .. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=179021 for more details about this, and some suggestions for relief.

hth,

Doreen
