Default old fashioned oatmeal

I read that Old fashioned oatmeal is acceptable. At what phase of the atkins diet, and how much? It appears to have to many carbs in it. Can anyone explain this to me.
I have a hard time finding things to eat for breakfast other than eggs and I am at a complete loss for what to drink at that time. I dont drink Coffee.
I find water to be tough to choke down early in the morning.

Hi SillyWilly!

This link to the Carbohydrate Ladder at the Atkins site may help you:
http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-770965.html

Note that whole grains (such as old fashioned oats) are the last thing to be added back into your daily menus.

For something to drink, you could try an herbal tea or in a pinch some sugar-free drink mix watered down quite a bit (say 1/3 strength).

There are at least several threads that discuss alternatives to eggs at breakfast. Try using the search function and you'll probably find quite a few good suggestions!

Instead of old fashioned oatmeal you should get steel cut oats. They are lower GI. This is when you are closer to maintanance though.

Other ideas can include a hot cereal made form a mix of ground flax seeds and wheat bran.
Left overs
meat and cream cheese roll ups
pancakes made from cream cheese or whey protien

If you aren't on induciton then
a protien shake with fresh fruit
cottage cheese with fruit or cinnimon
low carb or homade yogurt
LC pancakes, french toast, or waffles.
LC crepes

Check out the recipe section of this forum. There is a full bored for breakfast ideas that can provide variety.

If your looking for other ideas. Atkins has a Almond nut cereal that I thought it was quite tastie. I found it at the Super Walmart near my home. Make sure to check the recipe board. There is a section for just breakfast.
