Default UK mail order suppliers

Hello out there,
Can anyone tell me if there are any more suppliers of low carb products in the uk? We already buy from Low Carb Megastore UK.
But as we live in the Scottish Highlands any other links to suppliers would be a great advantage, can't find stockist of Flax meal or almond flour in our local, 120 mile round trip away city, Inverness, where there is a Holland and Barrett and a health food store. When you go into these shops and ask for such items, you may as well be an alien . Soooooooo any info would be a great help thanks ( in advance, and hopeful).

Hi Carol, I looked in the low carb yellow pages--see quick links bar on the right. I came up with nothing in Scotland, but did a search for UK and came up with Holland and Barrett that you mentioned. The listing is here

Can you get flaxseeds and almonds? You can make your own flax meal and almond flour. Or, you could do without those items for now and stick to meats and green veggies.

Best of luck,

Beth

I am most surprised that H+B dont have flax seeds . you certainly dont need flax meal . You can grind them yourself as you need , in an electric coffee grinder . Remember that ground seeds do not keep for more than a few hours before they go rancid .

Also ,you can buy almonds and blanch them by boiling briefly in water and then cooling under running water and popping them out of their skins . then roast them in oven at 160 Deg C for 10 minutes to dry them out . Keep blanched almonds and also use them as you want . Grind them in a grinder and voila , almond flour .

I buy online from a company called based in the midlands .

Lightbulb LC Foods in UK

Hi Carol,

I just wanted to say that for LC foods, I have found www.sugarlite.co.uk to be quite helpful in terms of variety, delivery time and price.

Best of luck.

Default Flax is Linseed

H&B and most health food stores do stock flax seed and flax meal. It is of course known in the UK as Linseed.

Personally I think it is a strange taste. I have an old tin of linseed oil that I use to oil my cricket bat! It never occurred to me to drink the stuff.

Smile Thanks for your note

Thanks for your note . I agree the smell is strange and I am not too sure we will be giving it a try!
Maybe when it's an ingredient, that is absolutely necessary.

to those poor misguided souls ,

flax and linseed oil are like chalk and cheese .

If you drink linseed oil or paint stripper ( as it is also known) you may rip your stomach out on the way , this is because the linseed oil is rancid and not fit for human consumption .
Flax oil and flax meal are highly unstable and need to be treated in a special way to prevent them from going rancid and from becoming toxic like linseed oil .

Ground flax is a marvellous form of fibre ,it is a great filler for mince and muffins and goes well in shakes . It is packed with healthy omega-3 oils and is the next best to fish oils .

Yes it can taste a bit grassy on its own , but why would you want to have it alone ??
Try ground flax , soy protein powder , hot water and Hermasetas gold with a dash of cinnamon ,butter or cream and voila you have porridge !!!!!!

give it try it wont bite and you may like it tooooo

Thank goodness that someone explained the difference between "linseed Oil" that you find in paint and "flax seed oil" which we LCers take each day. Of course, if you want to redecorate your insides, I guess you could drink the paint ingredient, but I would NOT reccommend it.
