I got a special deal through a local gym because I was a member there a long time ago. Therefore, it was really economical.
In your situation, I would suggest that you look into purchasing some equipment for your home. I worked out at home for a while before joining a gym (and I continue to work out at home as well as go to the gym.)
It doesn't have to be anything too fancy. My suggestions would be adjustable dumbbells, a jump rope, and maybe an aerobic step for starters. These things are not very expensive (quite possibly cheaper than a month at either gym!) Depending on your goals as well as the room you have available, you can then look into stuff like cardio equipment, a bench, an olympic barbell set, etc. You might also be interested in some sort of workout video. You don't have to have a gym membership to get fit.
If you are adamant about joining a gym, the YMCA sounds like the better deal. Are you exercising regularly now? What exercises are you interested in? You'll have to weigh each gym to decide which is the better fit.
