Hi pixy_nixy,

The dreaded aspatame is one reason. Also there is a body of opinion which thinks yopu should educate your body away from sweet things. Other people think that the artificial sweeteners trigger an insulin release like sugar. If it is of the diet coke type there is also the caffine to think about.

Personally, I think it's up to you. If you can drink it and lose weight, good for you. if you give it up, or cut down and drink water instead better for you!

Good luck,

Robert.

P.S. I drink it - but I'm stuck at the moment so I'm not a good role model!

Wow....I have to admit, I have been a big fan for many years of Crystal Light (diet soft drink without caffeine) and I thought it was okay because it didn't have sugar or caffeine.

I haven't noticed an increased appetite...I mean, certainly no "spike" like I get with eating anything starchy or sweet....is it possible I'm one of the people who isn't as sensitive to Nutrasweet? I know I read in the Carb Addicts book I that not all people are sensitive to Nutrasweet, although many are.

Well, what about water with a slice of lemon in it (and therefore a touch of a lemon taste to the water?) Is that okay? It isn't sweet really, but I like the taste a lot better than plain water, so I tend to drink more, which is good because otherwise I have a hard time forcing myself to get enough water in....

Love, Leora

Thnx, guys for responding.

Thnx for the article Rosebud, it was definitely informative.

But I have to admit that I also don't see any appetite spikes. I changed to a diet pop that contained way less caffiene than Diet Coke and after I suffered the withdrawl headaches from that. I find that making sure I drink two cans or less per day and drink All my water. I'm not seeing a problem yet. But when I find my weight stall, we definitely know what will go out the window. Pop or my fabulous new look..hmmm! No real contest. Thnx all.

Default If aspartame does release insulin

Is that bad? I've read posts on other sites where bodybuilders inject insulin to reach the ketogenic state faster. Wouldn't it have the same effect in quickening ketosis for the average dieter?

I understand where you're coming from. Ihave only been on Atkins for 6 days now. Being a Diet Coke junkie, I was drinking 7 or more each day. I've now cut back to 2. One in the morning and one in the evening. Don't know if I can give it up altogether.

Good luck

Default Hi!

I have been hearing people say that splenda is suppose to be the best sweetner to use....some say to avoid caffeine in drinks....I say just check out the carb gram reading on the side of the bottle/tin, and see how it affects your weight loss....

Are you a Libra? and do you like cats? (your name)

Libra people are good people...and if you love cats..your a good person anyway!!!!!!!
