Smile My quick story

I started doing Atkins after watching him on Larry King Live (well, I had known about it for years, but, I guess LKL was the impetus to actually get the book and reading it).

I had tried Weight Watchers (and starved to death every day), The Zone (and felt hungry after each meal - not to mention having to count 4 peanuts, one slice of apple and a piece of cheese for a snack was a pain..), but I had never had much success.

I'm 27, and my doctor had also been harassing me about my cholesterol (not "high", but, not what it should have been either).

I decided that I had little to lose, other than excess fat and weight. So, I tried it.

In about 2.5months, I've lost 4.5" from around my waist, almost 30 lbs, and my old clothes are literally falling off of me! My Triglycerides are WAY down and normal, LDL is down (but, still not perfect--although, given my age and other risk factors, it's not an overly big deal), Total is down. HDL is in the normal range. Even my Hemoglobin A1C is perfect, as too my creatine levels.

I'm lucky in the sense that my wife is an incredible cook, and has been very supportive over my diet. We've found some great cookbooks at Costco for low-carb cooking, and a bunch of websites with low-carb recipies. I've even found some Chocolate at WalMart that has 0 net carbs!

My parents were so impressed by the weight loss, that they too have started doing Atkins. So.. Am I amazed/impressed by the Atkins diet? Absolutely!

Anyways, just wanted to post some positive results for everyone else!

The chocolate I found at WalMart is called Sorbee No Sugar Added Fine European Chocolate

It's sweetened with Sucralose and Maltitol, but, here's the stats from the nutritional info on the back:

For the milk chocolate w/ peanuts... Per 13.3g serving (the whole package is 80g):
Carbs - 6.98g
sugars - 0g
sugar alcohols 6.65g
---
Net = 0.33carbs

There are also milk chocolate and dark chocolate ones of the same brand where the carbs and sugar alcohols are exactly equal! (sorry, I can't find the wrappers )

I found them in the Pharmacy section in Wal-Mart. Sort of a metallic wrapper on them.

I actually did already I bought some new cK jeans (which I have to say, look pretty damn good on me )

Don't want to buy too much, because I'm not convinced that I'll be a 36 for too long I'll probably end up at 34 or 32 I'm thinking.... (32 would be just great )

Default I saw him on LKL

I love your story. I had heard of Dr. A for quite a while and speculated about jumping on to the low carb wagon. I finally decided when I saw a report on the news that stated that people on this diet lowered there bad cholesterol and raised their good cholesterol, lowered triglycerides balanced blood glucose levels AND lost more weight more and better than on the American Heart Association DIet. This tells me that not only was the good doctor right for all of these years. Every other " so called' health professional and agency didn't even think to look into his claims. They insisted on disputing with him instead of honestly reviewing his claims.

If I had been more informed, I would have never put on nearly 40 lbs in ten years and my mom would probably NOT have contracted diabetes.

20 / 20 vision

Keep it up

I hear you.. I get so mad when I hear people bad mouth Atkins and say stupid things like, "Your kidneys will shut down" or "Atkins causes diabetes!".

I had been sent to a Cholesterol Clinic to help me get my cholesterol down--obviously I ignored everything they told me (thankfully!). But, the kicker was when I returned after losing close to 30 lbs and they told me that I was risking harm to my kidneys, pacreas, liver, etc.. I said, "Do you have any proof? Any studies to back up what you're saying?" Their response was, "no". I told them that they shouldn't say tell people who are obviously showing excellent results with Atkins, that it's bad for them--especially when they don't have science on their side!

Some people just never learn that just because something has "always been like this", doesn't mean that it's correct...
