Hi Cher!

Yes, you can add nuts and legumes (peanuts) once you are past induction, but be careful with them. Nuts are one of those things that, while allowed on low carb, are very easy to overeat on. It's kinda like potato chips...most people can't stop with just a few. One serving of peanuts (most nuts for that matter) is about 1/4 cup. Measure it out. It's not a lot.
Nuts are also a food that tends to stall a lot of folks, so be aware of that as well.
OTOH, nuts have a lot of things in them that are very good for us if portions can be controlled, so don't be afraid to add them; just be aware of the effect, if any, that they have on you.

Hi Cher,

Well, I just looked up raw peanuts in the carb counter and they are actually about the same carbs as the prefered almonds and walnuts - they are all about 7g and pretty good in oils and protein too.

They are technically a legume. With me the issue is limiting the portion of any nuts. I can happily buy 100 grammes and eat the lot!

Hello Cher,

I eat peanuts when I'm feeling deprived of salty snacks...plus they're one snack that won't get you weird looks from your friends (like pork rinds).

Peanuts are one of the few things I can usually find to snack on when I visit my parents....they are the king and queen of snack food, but most of it is Doritos, Little Debbies, M&M's....my mom usually offers me the same lunch she's eating...usually tortilla chips or something. I try to bring a salad or something if I'm going to be there more than a few hours.

Good luck,
Larix

I eat peanuts, but I limit the amounts. If I eat too many, my weight loss stalls. They are very high in calories. While we don't count calories on Atkins, calories do count.

I agree, they are an excellent snack food if you can refrain from over-eating them.

Here's the carb count for 2 oz of nuts, according to Fitday.

Cashews 16
Macadamias 7
Walnuts 8
Peanuts 8

I was kicking myself the day I ate a big handful of cashews (without checking first) thinking all nuts are the same. And I completely agree with Lisa--it's almost impossible to limit yourself to just a few. Now I keep macadamias in the freezer, so at least I have to "think about it" while I wait for them to thaw.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all of your responses. I just put a 1/8 cup measuring cup in my can of peanuts so when I eat them, I can just measure them right out. I tend to eat them as a quick snack inbetween classes in grad school. I'll be sure to watch for an effect!

Thanks again.

Cher
