Red face Calories on The Zone

I've read on several magazine that an 11 blocks day should be a 1100 calories day. I wonder how they come up with this number.

This is what I had today

Breakfast

Zone perfect bar 1 and 1/2 - 315 cal (3F/P/F)

Lunch
3 oz Chicken - 135 cal (3P)
2 cups of Romaine - 15 cal
1 tsp of olive oil - 120 cal(3F)
Balsamic vinaigrette - 10 cal
2 Tomatoes - 38 cal (1C)
3 whole wheat crakers - 45 cal (1C)
1 cup of strawberries - 44 cal (1C)

Snack
1 oz of low fat cheese - 60 cal (1F/P)
3 crackers - 45 cal (1C)

Dinner

5 oz scallops - 133 cal (3P)
2 cups of spinach - 14 cal
12 asparagus spears - 44 cal (1C)
1 tsp olive oil - 120 cal (3F)
1 glass of wine - 80 ca (1C)
1 cup of strawberries - 44 cal (1C)

Snack

zone bar - 105 cal (1F/C/P)

which brings my calorie intake to 1367 & not 1100

what am I doing wrong

Thanks for all your help

This is just another area the media gets it wrong, especially when they're trying to downplay the validity of the Zone.
Here's how they come up with that number.
4.4 calories per gram in carbohydrates
4 calories per gram in protein
9 calories per gram in fat
7 calories per gram in alcohol

1 block = 9g/C, 7g/P, 3g/F

9 X 4.4 = 39.6
7 X 4 = 28
3 X 9 = 27
Total = 94.6
approx. 100 cal per block (It would appear)

BUT, what many neglect to realize is the fact that there are calories coming from macronutrients other than the category they are listed in. For instance: High fiber, multi grain bread is a carbohydrate in the Zone and we don't "count" the protein or fat, but there still are calories coming from those macronutrients.

This is why we don't think calorically in the Zone, but rather, hormonally. It would be almost impossible to eat under 1200 calories on 11 blocks most of the time.

I hope this makes sense.

Thank you so very much for the help!!!
Also I just started drinking Diet Hansen's. It is suppose to be calorie free, aspartame free & caffeine free. Sound like the miracle product for someone in the zone. I just noticed though it contains Citric Acid. Is not that know to stall weight loss?
Thanks
