Unhappy Addicted to chicken wings... how much is too much?

Buffalo wings were on sale at the grocery store, and I bought a 3 lb bag. As a former vegetarian, I had never had chicken wings befire (gasp!) and actually used to think that the skin on anything is disgusting. But they were so good!!!

The problem now is that I ate WAY too many of them. I polished off the entire 3 lb bag in a day and a half! I am still under my carb limit (4 wings = 1 carb; the entire bag had 9 carbs), but I can't help but think that this kind of consumption is way too excessive. I know that dairy can be a staller because it can induce cravings. Can chicken induce the same cravings?? Because I'm sure craving those wings again....

Although I suppose it's possible, I've never heard of someone actually having a craving for a protein food. Even though the wings were 1 gram of carb for 4 wings, they may have had sugar and/or starch in them that are triggering cravings in you. Can you post the ingredients list?
Instead of store-bought buffalo wings, how about making your own? It's not difficult and I think the homemade ones taste better than the store bought anyday. You also know exactly what's on them.

WOW!!! That's a lot of wings....however...as long as your carb count was okay...I don't see a problem!
I had wings and a salad last night...I only ate 8 though!!!
They ARE addictive for sure!

Default wings

I go to Sam's club and get an even larger (10 lbs) bag and keep it in my big freezer. These are just raw chicken wings with no additional ingredients. I also got a DeLonghi countertop deep fryer which I use for making wings (unless I'm making them on a grill). I don't even have to thaw them, just fry em up and put em in a sauce made with Texas Pete's and butter. Excellent. Celery sticks and low carb blue cheese dressing on the side. I think you could (and should) eat this at least once a week.

I know that one of the reasons I originally gained too much weight is that I was addicted not just to carbs but also to convenience food, fast food. Wings are really good, really fast and seriously low carb. I can't imagine that you could have too much under this WOE. In fact, when I first started out, I was inspired to stick with it by a guy on this site who said that he had made progress because he was able to eat as many wings as he wanted.

I think women have a harder time giving up sweets and chocolate. Like most guys, my problem areas are giving up favorite foods of my youth which I was in the habit of eating at least once a week -- pizza, sushi and pasta. That I can still go nuts with wings makes it easier to bypass my former favorites, now forbidden.

2 questions, first off, what would be best to use on homemade wings, and second, what would be the best route to take to fry up some chicken? i have a fry-daddy deep frier... could i just put the chicken, (with some seasoning), in there frozen, or would i need something to coat the chicken with? i know that normal fried chicken has flour on it, but what can i do to substitue? thanks in advance,
ryanne

I agree that you should eat them only once a week. Try on the weekend when you can reward yourself for that long work week. I wouldnt eat as many as you consumed, but what the heck eat half of that and then buckle down the rest of the week. You think you are cheating obviously but your carb count is still in control.
Eat up! (just once a week)

Ryanne..

You could just season them and fry them without any coating at all, although I would probably thaw the chicken first, but if some type of breading is required, try crushed pork rinds. First dip the chicken in a mixture of cream and egg white, then roll in the crushed pork rinds and you'll probably get some of the best fried chicken you've ever tasted. I've also seen people mix parmesan cheese in with the crushed pork rinds.

Actually, I OFTEN crave meats and it was even more frequent when I was a low-fat dieter.

Chicken, especially the thigh meat, contains a natural antidepressant. Some of the B vitamins (and other nutrients) in chicken are believed to be capable of elevating endorphine levels. I eat chicken as often as I like, in whatever quantities suit me.

So, what are some good low-carb sauce recipes for making your own buffalo wings? This sounds awesome!

Yes, I would like to know a good sauce or coating for those red hot wings...not too hot though! I would LOVE to make them at home.

So you don't eat the whole bag, make a nice big salad with tons of stuff...hard boiled egg, cucumbers, olives, blue cheese...whatever...and make that the other half of the meal.

Looking forward to getting a big bag of these tomorrow...hope there's a recipe posted by then, because I don't know the first thing about how to get them with that orange coating on them that's SO good!!

try sprinkling liberally with hot sauce/tabasco sauce. Or, look where sauces are in grocery store (near barbecue sauce) and read labels for carb counts on all kinds of different hot sauces (jamaican, etc.) So many sauces....(eyes glazing over, here )

Experiment!

I generally BAKE my "naked" wings in the oven until nicy and crispy. In the maen time in a metal bowl I melt a stick of butter, add a generous amount of Texas Pete hot sauce, and a tiny splash of vinegar. Pull them out of the oven, toss them in the sauce, and then I put them back in for about 4-5 minutes.
Easier way is deep fry them naked, then dip in sauce and serve. Easy-peasy!!!!
Serve with celery and blue cheese or a salad. Good stuff!!!

I have chicken wings and blue cheese dressing every Friday night for dinner - I love them too. I also cook them naked, then bake with hot sauce - I buy a "wing sauce" from Dominion here in Toronto and the carbs are very very low (I'd have to look at home for exact stats). I just love the fact that we can eat these things without guilt.

Durkee brand, AKA Frank's Hot Sauce is what is usually used to coat hot wings in. It's available in almost any grovery store. To make the wings milder, the sauce can be thinned with melted butter.

I don't think 3 lbs. of chicken wings is too much over 1 1/2 days. 60% of the wing is bone, so that's just a little over 1 pound of protein in 1 1/2 days. And any sauce - even sugar free - will have carbs in it.
