Unhappy Fatigue!

Hi ever since i have been on the atkins i began having the worst fatigue. I dealt with it for a while thinking it was going to go away like it says in the book, but it never did. I went to the doctors and got a blood test for my thyroid because thats the only other reason i could think of, but my thyroid was fine. I dont know what to do i am now going into my third week. I havent lost much only like a couple pounds because i cannot excercise. Fatigue is the worst. I need help i dont know what to do. How can i get back my energy. Ever since i started low carbing i never had fatigue and then i started low carbing and the fatigue started. Please any help needed.

Hi there,

Are you taking any supplements?

If you mean you feel dizzyish and weak, you might need some potassium.

When we first eat low carb, we naturally lose a lot of excess water, and this diuresis tends to flush out extra potassium.
If you are not already taking a potassium supplement, I would suggest you add some. You'll need about 400mg at first, decreasing to 100mg as time goes on.
You can get tablets, or you can use potassium salt, Nu Salt or No Salt, available with the ordinary salt at your supermarket.

Do take the tablets with your meals, otherwise they may irritate your stomach. Also, make sure you are drinking lots of water.

And lastly, a warning. Check with your pharmacist first if you are taking medications for high blood pressure or diuretics.

I hope you feel a bit more energetic soon!

Have you been eating enough calories? Sometime when people begin LC their appetite diminishes, and they don't eat enough. Maybe you could list a sample menu & we could see if you are missing anything?

Hang in there, this WOE works!
