Plan: CKD Sept '02

Progress: 50%

Default Trying to decide between CKD and BFL (low carb)

can anyone give me some insight into which plan would be better for fat burning? Or should i try to combine them into one custom plan?

I am more concerned with getting rid of excess weight right now than i am with building lean muscle mass.

thanks for any input and help.

Hi there Big Dog

I noticed from your profile that you've been doing LC since January 2000 - have you been on LC the whole time? If 'yes' I'd think that a change might do you some good (i.e. the CKD).

I've done two BFL challenges while LC and was pleased with the results and I've bitten the bullet, gotten over my fear of carbs, and decided on the CKD for my next 'experiement' - I think they both have merit.

Have you looked over both programs? Perhaps the one that fits best with your lifestyle would be the wisest choice for your first foray into resistance training?

Sorry I couldn't offer more constructive help
Nat

My LCing history:

Jan 2000-June 2000 lost over 50 pounds (285 - 232)
June 2000-Dec 2000 maintained 235-240 range
2001 off LC, slowly gained back to 275
2002 - present trying to get back on Atkins, usually do good for a week or two, then fall off the wagon. Latest round has been two weeks, dropped from 270-264 so far.

Labor day i am planning to join a gym (havent lifted seriously in almost 8 years) and i want to have a plan in place when i start.

I have looked over both plans and think they both have good merits. BFL would require me to add some more carbs into my diet. I never heard of CKD until last week when i found this site but i have inadvertently been following the diet all summer (do good through the week, then cheat on weekends) but i havent been working out.

I dont think i will have much problems doing either plan, i am just trying to figure out which to try first.

I am kinda leaning towards CKD first. If i do BFL i want to commit 12 weeks to it. SO my thinking is to do CKD for a month and if i have good results continue with it, if not then try BFL for a full 12 week challenge.

Cool What part of PA do you live in?

I live in West Chester. Our starting point and goals seem to be pretty similar. Trainerdan, Nat, and some of the folks on the CDK board seem to know what they are talking about. What program is right for you is your decision. I've been LC'ing for 3 months with steady progress. I have been contemplating the CDK program for a couple of weeks now, and feel like I am ready to give it a try. Let me know if you are interested in joining me. and we'll charge it together! Strength in numbers!

Well i came up with a solution: I am doing both.

I am going to do them on 12 week rotating schedules.

Gonna start with CKD for 12 weeks then into BFL

One problem i had in the past was getting bored with training routines and diets. Hopefully this will keep me interested.

Hey Marley!
I am about 30 mins from West Chester! Are you going to do the CKD? Feel free to ask any questions in the CKD forum...

I'm definitely going to give it a try starting Monday. I currently lift 5 days per week, and I really seem to be struggling to increase my poundages when I'm LC'ing 7 days per week. I realize I'm going to have to adjust my routine, and get my butt out of bed earlier, but I miss the energy I need to have. Anyways, I'll keep you posted and definitely use the board and yourself when I have questions.

I would suggest you use a CKD diet if you
train regularly with weights.
The carb loads will help you get through the week
in the gym(energy).
They will also restore the glycogen in your muscles
to prevent them from looking flat.
A couple of days of high calorie carb loading will also help to
prevent your metabolism from operating at a slow crawl
in additon to ensuring that the tyroid gland is functioning properly.
