Default Malodextrin?

I have been on the Atkin's WOE for 6 days and have gained 3 pounds and 1% body fat.

Obviously, I have been trying to find out why since I AM NOT cheating and haven't gone over 15 carbs.

I used Ketostix for the first time yesterday and they didn't change color at all. I guess I am not even near ketosis for some reason. My BF and I are eating the same foods and his test strip turned dark purple.

I noticed that several of my vitamin supplements have malodextrin in them as the second or third ingredient. Isn't that what is in Sugar Twin? Will that cause me not to lose weight?

Unfortunately, these are supplements (horse chestnut, grape seed extract) that I have to take to improve my circulation. So, I am hoping that they aren't going to derail my weight loss. All in all, I take 11 pills day that containe malodextrin and one of them has dextrose also.

I might be gaining weight because I am eating so many more calories than usual because I can't seem to get full. My stomach is sonstantly growling. Dr. Atkins say to eat when you are hungry, so I am eating. That might be a mistake, in my case.

Anyway, I am just wondering if my vitamins are causing me additional problems.

Thanks in advance!!!!

P.S. For more info about my situation see "How much do calories matter"

hi Shasta,

Maltodextrin is a carbohydrate, made from corn or sometimes barley. And dextrose is a type of sugar. So .. those supplements will be adding some carbs to your menu. Not a huge amount, but you're wise to be concerned and make note. It's hard to say how much is in each pill, but 0.25 to 0.5g per tablet might be a reasonable guess. Given that you've kept your measurable carb intake below 15g per day, it's doubtful that you're going over the permitted 20g per day.

It would be better if you could find a brand of supplement that states on the label that there's no sugar or starch added. Those 20g carbs are best to come from salad greens and low-carb vegetables, not from the fillers in pills

Default I was afraid of that....

Thank you for responding. When I run out of these vitamins, I am going to look for a different brand. In the meantime, since I haven't had any results with LC, I am going to do KISS and see if that works.

Wish me luck and thanks again for your reply!
