Question measuring cups

Hello everywhere,
In Fitday, they measure stuff like cheddar, eggplant, ground beef....... in cups.
I went out to buy a measuring cup today. When I got to the store, they've like 4 different sizes of measuring cups
Can anyone pls tell how big is the american-standard-size-cup? How many ounces?
Thanks a lot

regards,
Bebe

Hi BeBe!
For liquid measures.... 8 oz is equal to one cup. For dry goods.. there are scoops that are 1 cup, 1/2 cup, etc. Hope this helps.

Bebe,

The Hong Kong cup is a horse race at Happy Valley.

Horses are measured in Hands.

So if I were you, I would just cup your hands to gether and that should be about 8oz

Default In Pennsylvania, Happy Valley is the valley where Penn State University is.

I grew up in that area and it is beautiful.

Bebe, I learned when I was young that a "pint is a pound the world around". A pint is 2 cups or 16 oz. The measuring cups come in different sizes, but they should be printed on the outside as to oz. Some measuring cups actually are big enough to hold a quart (2pts or 32oz)

I know all this sounds confusing to you who grew up with grams and liters, but it is easier for me. I can't figure out the metric system. Too many numbers for me.

Carol

Remember Atrsy we Brits are a strange lot.

We have 20oz to a pint and a pound is an upmarket dollar!

Hong Kong used to be British. We borrowed it from the Chinese for a while. Although we have given it back we left our tramcars and quirky imperial measuring systems.

Hi Carol- Thanks for responding to my thread I bought a 250ml measuring cup today (I believe that's 8 US fluid oz).

I had no idea a cup is so small

Hi Rustpot- I just came back from your journal. Your latest post is excellent stuff
