Default Elevated White Blood Cells?

Was just wondering if anyone had ever experienced this either through Atkins or a combination of supplements and the diet?

Got my bloodwork back a month ago and, although my cholesterol was way down (as I expected), my white blood cell count was up. I felt great and have felt great since starting this WOL so I didn't think I was fighting off an infection. We waited a week and tested again. Still up. So, now I'm waiting on a referral to go to a Hematologist and, naturally, I'm terrifying myself with all kind of internet searches on what it could be. Sometimes, the internet is not a good thing.

Anyway, thought I'd check here to see if anyone else had experienced this.

Do you know what the numbers were? and what the norms are?

There are lots of things that can be a cause....influding a low-grade infection. See the doc and see what s/he says. Dont' be too concerned....it'll only cause stress! It won't solve anything. A mild elevation could even be just "your" normal!

Keep us informed. And truely, try not to get too stressed about it.

Other causes for elevated WBC count:
• Eating .. digestion after a heavy meal; also tends to be higher in afternoon, lower in morning
• strenuous physical activity, exercise
• if you've had your spleen removed, you may have a persistent mild to moderate increased WBC count.
• some drugs can alter WBC count .. cortisone/prednisone (including inhaled type for asthma), lithium and NSAID's (ibuprofen, aleve etc)
• stress, excitement .. extensive testing of medical students reveals that increased WBC accompanies every examination.
