Question A bit confused on the 10XBW for calories

If I were to eat 10X my weight I would need 2,300 calories in a day. Do I subtract some from that to lose? Isn't the 10X what I would need to maintain this weight?

Yesterday I did fitday and it said I ate 1,512 calories. Does this mean I must eat more? At that amount of calories, I had roughly 24g carbs--give or take a few. (I didn't count the splenda or cream, and it didn't adjust the yogurt to lower carbs.)

Maybe the reason I'm not losing faster is because I'm starving myself. Imagine that!

I'd like some advise. Thanks

Edit: I'm sorry if this sounds redundant, I've just read down through other posts and saw a similar question. I really am confused though, because I have never eaten very much and to almost double my intake would be scary for me.

Nat

P.S. next time you're at fitday.com check out the activities tab to see just what your BMR and lifestyle caloric requirements are. At 241 lbs I believe I was around 3700 calories a day - eating 2000 to 2300 calories I consistently lost 2 - 3 lbs of fat every week.

Question

Is this 10X your body weight for certain? I've never heard it before. I weigh 280 lbs -- I don't think I CAN eat 10X my body weight, and definitely would not feel good if I did. How necessary is this and where can I find out more about this theory? Thanks!
