Default New to exercise question

I joined Curves (circuit training) on Feb 9th and today I made the mistake of getting on the scales. According to it, I am gaining instead of losing. I have gained 4 pounds! I don't know why. I have been exercising regularly and watchig the carbs. I have actually been better at staying focused since I started exercising. I have cut way down on cheese and nuts. I measured myself and don't see any changes there either.
Why would I gain? This does not encourage me to continue to exercise.

I am a Curves for Women fitness technician and I want you to have faith! My weight fluctuates daily several pounds (water). You are probably gaining muscle through the resistance training. Please wait until your CFW staff does your monthly weighing and measuring before despairing. Consistency is important. They have your measurements recorded and will be able to make a solid comparison for you. If after your monthly weigh and measure you havent shown any loss, discuss it with the staff. They want to help you succeed!
