Smile Introduction for a Monday

Hi all...I am SO glad to have found you! I have been attempting a blend of Atkins and Protein Power. I have not lost a huge amount of weight but my energy has increased, my moods are much more stabile and my clothes fit better.
I am a busy ER nurse. I am grateful to not have kids or a husband while attempting this change of behavior...I get a hard-enough time from my well meaning friends.
I began this journey 1/15 and am challenged at times to find creative low carb tasty food. I look forward to your support and I will share whatever I learn...
THanks for being here!!!

Welcome Nursie!

This site is just packed with information and friendly, helpful people. I can just imagine what a hard time your colleagues are giving you -- it's rough enough for those of us outside the medical profession. You'll find there are a lot of other nurses and medical professionals here, though.

As for recipes, the obvious suggestion is the recipe forum, but don't miss the recipes link at the top of the page on the orange bar. We are very fortunate to have Karen Barnaby, a Canadian celebrity chef, as a moderator. Her recipes are fabulous. (Her posts on carb addiction and recovery are also some of the best you'll read.)

Hope to see you around!

Allison

I say amen to that sistah!

Make converts, then you'll have people to cook and eat with! THe journals here are full of good ideas. As you get more into it, cooking becomes easier. Just keep an open mind!

Ok Nursie,

what is tasty to you? what have you wanted when you were on a low fat diet that was off limits?

i love buttery shimp. lobster. i love halibut with curry, red and green peppers and popcorn shrimp, swimming in butter and garlic. I've been caught drinking the stuff.

Try nearly powdered almond with paprika on salmon.

Whip some cream with no sweetner at all, try a teaspoon or two with about 8 to 10 almonds and a small bit of cinnamon stick.

Try slivered almonds and lots and lots of butter lightly warmed and mixed with small portion of green beans.

On the married state, I did have a good response when I started. My spouse did a restart, so we had our own support group. OK, though, there are plenty of posts about having to make non LC meals at the same time as cooking for you. That's got to be hard.

Go to it!

Welcome aboard!

This is a fabulous site - it has helped me a great deal already and I'm just starting Week #3. Everyone here will make you feel very welcome and truly supported.

Be sure to consider starting a Journal in the My Journal / Bootcamp forum and to peruse though the ones that that already there.
