I don't think nuts are allowed in weeks one and two, induction. There is a carb ladder in Dr. Atkin's book and I think that during the first two weeks most of your carbs should be coming from veggies. Should you decide to move on from induction after 2 weeks the ladder advises to increase carbs to 25 by eating more veggies for a week and then you can move up the carb ladder. I recommend you go to the Atkins website or better yet read the book before adding nuts. I believe they are on the 3 rung of the ladder after your first two weeks of induction.

I wish you great success in your new way of eating.

Nuts are not allowed in Induction if you're doing Atkins. According to your profile, you are doing South Beach. I am not sure if Phase I is the same or if nuts are allowed.

I'm not exactly sure to which diet I want to go with right now. I want to follow low carb, but which is better?

If you do eat nuts, be careful with peanuts. Macadamias and almonds are better. Peanuts are a big culprit for stalling folks. (But the are so much cheaper!)

Also, sometimes I'm pretty sensitive to the sodium in nuts and will tend to retain some fluid. Even if a food falls below Induction level carbs, make sure it is on the Induction acceptable foods list.

That depends on the person doing the choosing. There are lots of people here who aren't doing Atkins or South Beach. Thankfully, each major plan has it's own forum and support system, so you're sure to find something that fits your needs and preferences.

hello, on the South Beach Diet, I got a list from one of the members on South Beach Babes and nuts are allowed on Phase One. It has several to choose from and gives you how many to have. You can have one serving a day of nuts and seeds. If you go out to South Beach Babes, you will find a food list. You might just want to check it out along with all the others to find the perfect plan to fit your needs.
