Default Denney's Low Carb Menu: Rip-off

I noticed Denney's has a new low carb menu and they had essentially the same thing as the "Triple Play" breakfast, without the hash browns and bread, substituting tomato slices, for $1.40 additional!!!

Incredible...

Denny's doesn't need a low-carb menu. I've eaten there several times on Atkins and I always get the same thing: the "Ultimate Omlette" with sliced tomatoes and cottage cheese instead of hash browns and bread. One of the waitressess offered this substitution for me the first time I ordered the omlette w/o the usual carb sides. They have never charged me extra for it.

I've been told that at Denny's you're getting more OF the eggs, etc. than just the Triple Play without the carby sides. I haven't tried it, so I can't speak from experience, but it would explaing the slightly higher price.

I don't see how, it says on triple play: 2 eggs, fixed however you want. On the low carb menu it's 2 eggs too.

Maybe it costs $1.40 to retrain the kitchen help to not slap a mass of carbs on every plate.

Anyway, they have some new scrambles that are VERY good. I just asked them to hold the pancakes. They come with 2 bacons, 2 sausages and scrambled eggs with more sausage, green peppers, gravy and cheese. I could eat about half of it before exploding. And they're 1.20 cheaper than the triple play! The waitress was a sweety, she gave me extra bacon and sausage because I didn't want the pancakes.

Does Denny's beef up their omlette's with pancake batter like IHOP does?

PLEASE tell me you're making that up. Why would they do that? Wouldn't it ruin the omlette? Wouldn't it taste bready?

I don't think so. It just has the texture of eggs.

Or...heaven forbid...a whisk and a little elbow grease.
I always make my scrambled eggs with 1 tablespoon of water per egg, whisk until lots of air incorporated and....fluffy scrambled eggs every time.

Oh, I am so upset - I didn't know IHOP adulterated their eggs - what a ripoff! I usually order low carb in restaurants by just eliminating the carby extras. I refuse to pay more when they're giving me less.

I always ask for plain eggs. Usually basted or easy over so nothing can be added. If I do get scrambled then I ask for plain eggs. Many places will add milk to scrambled eggs and some places will even add a little sugar to make the eggs taste better.

I agree - I would sooner remove the bun or hashbrowns myself than pay extra for less food!

Yes, Denny's actually uses powdered eggs to make their omelettes. I remember reading about the same thing with IHOP and asked my waitress when we went to Denny's this weekend. She said that they do so I must always ask for fresh cracked eggs when I eat at those places. Good thing I asked, powdered eggs has so much CRAP in it!

It's funny how you can even have carb creep when you are ordering something as basic as eggs. It's a shame!
