Default Arachidonic Acid

Based on PPs description of AA...I truly believe I am sensitive to this.
Am I reading correctly that 6 fish oil capsules daily will help?
As I am NOT a great fan of seafood and eat chicken more than I can already stand....this would be an acceptable alternative. But 6 softgels are 6Xs the recommended dosage.

Just want to make sure I'm not doing something stupid!!

I am sensitive to this - my BP went up significantly and my lipid profile got worse on the LC WOE... I am not taking the fish oil caps - gave me a horrible sour tummy - so bad I couldn't eat at all.

I have eliminated egg yolks (note my egg-beater omelets in menus on the PP Pals threads) and beef from my diet. My BP is back to normal and my lipids will be checked in April. I'm including my signature with this post - it has a link to my fitday menus - I eat a lot of ham and fish as well as chicken and turkey - and cottage cheese, yogurt and other cheese to replace the beef.

I forgot to mention two things - my fitday menus have a huge gap during the past few months due to serious lillness - use the calender function to find the days with menus.

I also have had mostly good results substituing ground turkey for ground beef in recipes, and sliced chicken breast for steak in recipes - try marinading chicken breast strips in a a beef bullion cube mixed with 1/2 c water - this adds a beefy flavor that works in many recipes where you normally use beef.

Hi Flintstone,

Just a heads up about the fish oil capsules: when you buy them, get the ones that are enteric coated. Otherwise you tend to get a little "fishy" burp or two. Not totally unpleasant, but better avoided IMHO.

Cheers,

Rosebud

Thanks Orang and Rosebud!!

Orang...Your suggestions sound very "doable" and will definately try them. The chicken marinaded in boullion sounds especially interesting!!

Rosebud....I just checked the bottle...and LUCKY ME...they are enteric (and I really didn't plan on it). Never knew they could "come back to haunt you"!! Thanks for the warning!!

I just hope these help. I detest eating just egg whites and the substitutes are terrible. (However, I did pick up a couple good hints on the PP board on how to "doctor" them a little..worth a try). I still want to try the marinade in the PP book. But somehow "advanced planning" is not my strong point!

Thanks all.
Deb

Deb, Glad the suggestions were helpful.

Rosebud, thanks for the info re: enteric coated fish oil. I may give that a try if the docs OK it. My gastric specialist that took me off the fish oil. I could deal with the occasional fishy belch, but I wasn't able to keep any food down while taking 6 caps a day.
