So, I went to the doctor today for my yearly (female) physical. She is supportive of my Atkins Diet, but I have (according to their scales) only lost 11 pounds since I started in November. (I know this because I went to her for weight loss then - we tried a couple of pills, and when nothing worked, SHE suggested Atkins.)
The thing is, I know I have lost -
When I started I was a SOLID size 16, and now I fit in most of my 12s and some of my 10s. So what is going on here???

Plus, she found a lump (gulp) in my breast today. Sigh. Guess I just need you all's support.

Thanks,
Sandy

Hey Sandy~
As far as the # on the scale.......don't let that freak you out..........16's to 10's is an obvious improvment........keep your sights on that......you are doing great!!
As for the lump........not knowing what is going on is the hardest part........I had a similar scare several years ago but all turned out fine. Try not to make yourself crazy till you have some facts. Thinking of you and wishing you a good day~

You are probably eating more protein, and building muscle. Also your clothes might just have been a bit lighter on the day you went before .

Don't sweat the scale. How you feel and look are all that really matters. I am only 160 but fit a 13-14... I would love to have your problem, lol!

One thing, when you go to a doctors office, it is most likely the middle of the day. This means they weight not only you, but all the water you have drank, the food you have eaten, your clothing, enviromental clingerons, any retained water and so on.

As for the fitting into a smaller size, that means you are building muscle and losing fat. That is far more important then just losing weight. Increased lean weight not only means a smaller size, but less cellulite, increased metabolism, improved circulation, increased strength and endurance, among a myriad of other health benifits. If you have a doctor who tries to preach nothing but weight loss at the sacrifice of lean weight, run.

Breasts often get lumps. Find out what it is and treat it if needed as fast as possible. Feel confident in the fact if it is anything serious you and your doctor caught it early. Hang on to the hope that like most brest lumps, it will turn out to be nothing. Remember as you are losing weight, breasts are mostly fatty tissue so they will go through changes as well. Also estrogen is stored in fat, so as you lose weight your hormone levels can get kind of wacky, also effecting your breasts. Get it checked out, but don't get frantic quite yet

Ladybelle,

Thanks for the encouragement. I hadn't thought about the estrogen/fat changes affecting my breasts. I'm sure all will be ok.
I would like to ask you - You have lost as much weight as I would like to lose, and you did it in 9 or 10 months. As my weight loss has been so slow it seems, do you have any advice? Also how much and what type of exercise do you do if any?

I guess after this morning, I'm looking for a WHOOSH. My carbs are still at induction level, but I have added somethings like nuts.

Staying at induciton levels, espo when working out so hard, can backfire. Soem people do actually lose better when they raise to 30g carbs. You may have to just find what works for your body.

Make sure too you are eating enough calories to support working out so much. Eating too few and your body will hang on to fat stores like they are gold.

My weight loss hasn't always been fast or steady. Click on the gallery link under my post an dlook at my progress picture which is a chart. There were many times I didn't lose weight, and many times I even gained.

What worked for me when I wanted to kick loss into high gear I would do KISS. Basically that means no LC products, nuts, dairy, or alcohol. I would have tons of LC veggies, protiens (meats, eggs, tofu, fish) and fat in the form of oils. It is boring as all heck, but it helped me not only lose, but to get over bloating and to kind of detox. I could never stick to it mroe then a week before I'd start adding things in though

My boobs are lumpy and the doctor had me go for a mammogram. I had to also have an appointment with a specialist. She ( the specialist ) told me not to worry because the lumps I had in 1 breast matched the lumps in the other breast which was just a characteristic and not a health problem.

It is common for many on this WOE to lose lots of inches. Inches lost are just as, if not more, important as lbs. lost. I consider myself a slow loser. But losing 26 lbs is quite a feat for me and I do not have many to go before reaching my goal. Forty lbs lost in 2 years would be wonderful for me as I look at the entire picture. The entire picture is going from a size 10 ( almost size 11 ) to a size 8 and perhaps a size 5/6. I have a great lipid profile. I eat healthier foods with hardly any "frankenfoods". I can easlily see myself eating this way for life.

I hope this has also given you some encouragement and I wish you well.

My weight has gone down 1 pound in 2 months but my tops that I tried on two months ago and were tight are loose now. I am encouraged! --My prayers are with you too.
