Default help with withdrawls

hello, i started the atkins diet just over a week ago and for most of that time i have had the (regular for this diet apparantly) dizziness, fatigue, blacking out, stars, etc...anyway, its getting really annoying and i find it hard to exercise for obvious reasons, does anyone have advice for relieving these symptoms? i generally eat around 20 carbs per day, empty my 32oz nalgene about 3 or more times (into my mouth of course!) and take a multivitamin.

I'd say from your symptoms that you need a potassium supplement AND to eat more carbs than 20.

You really can't exercise during Induction without feeling the weakness, dizziness etc.

Those symptoms are definitely too strong to stay at Induction Levels. Move up by about 10 -20 grams but stay with the Induction List of food. Eat frequent small meals. I bet you feel better really soon.

I actually had to slow down on my workouts when in induction. I just couldn't do them while my body was adjusting to low carb. After I started adding a few more carbs-those symptoms went away.

My suggestion is just to take it easier on yourself until you get out of induction. Do half your work out instead.

hi there,

Since non-flesh protein sources have carbs in them .. cheese, eggs, soy, veggie protein ... it's very very difficult for vegetarians to maintain adequate protein and calorie intake within the strict carb limits of Induction, unless you're not eating any other vegetables?? It's often better to start at a higher carb level to accomodate the different protein needs. Perhaps a sample day's menu might be helpful for us to spot some problem areas for you.

Hypoglycemia can cause the symptoms you describe, as well as potassium. You need to have more frequent meals and snacks, which should always contain some protein. This will keep your blood sugar stable. Try not to let more than 3 waking hours go without eating.
