Default Question about walnuts?

My DH, find out I was doing atkins, and is buying me treats, nuts, meat ect....
Welp he bought a bag of walnuts and it list 3 carbs per a serving, and 3 fiber per a serving, soooooo going by the net carbs, this would mean that none of these carbs can be asorbed into the body RIGHT? So, this would make it a 0 carb food.

Just want to check this out and see if I got it right.

Hi Surfnmom,

I'm sorry to have to tell you that walnuts are not carb free. I think what you'll find is that the fibre would have already been subtracted - leaving 3 carbs as the net. Unfortunately many manufacturers are now presubtracting the fibre carbs, which can be very confusing!

If you check with Fitday, or perhaps our carb counter (at the right side of the screen), you'll see that walnuts have a total carb count of 16 per cup, 8 of which are from fibre, leaving a net count of 8. So, not carb free.

Cheers.

Rosebud

Default Nuts are risky for me.

I know they're low carb, but it's WAY hard to stick to "one" serving. Had a long slide into too many nuts on a business trip two weeks ago; found myself fighting cravings the whole time. It's taken about 10 days to get back to where I'm feeling "normal" on my WOE. Just can't have the shelled nuts in the house.

Will experiment with the pecans--I have two huge trees in my yard, ripening now. Might be different if I have to shell them before I eat.
