Default Dr Atkins says this...food labels say that...

Just wondering if anyone has noticed conflicts in the carb counts the Atkins for Life book gives, compared to actual food labels. My 4% milkfat cottage cheese says 5 carbs for 1/2 C. The book says 3/4 C. whole milk cottage cheese is 5 carbs. Is there cottage cheese out there that has more than 4% milkfat? Thats not the only differences Ive seen, I was wondering if anyone else has seen it too and wondered why....Not that its a HUGE deal, not to me...just curious...

It will vary with different brands, because they'll use a slightly different combination of milk solids, proteins, etc.

Question "Imitation Abalone"

True...but what about seafood? My Atkins Carb Counter says that a serving of squid/calamari is 7 carbs, but I have a can of "imitation abalone" which is nothing more than giant squid chunks...and the carb content on the label says 0 g carbs for the same serving size. I was always confused by this kind of difference. I am tempted to count only what's on the product label....but I know this doesn't count in all cases because the FDA lets manufacturers count 0 carbs when there's actually just less than a carb per serving...does anyone have any answer?
