Unhappy What are active Carbs?

Hello everyone, Im new to the Atkins diet and Im not sure what Active Carbs mean. I was in the process of purchasing some low carb Tortillas and in the describtion it stated that one has only 5 active carbs. But, when I read the Total Carbs on the back of the package, it stated 11 carbs total. What should I go by?

Second, I love Kendall Jackson Wine. I read that a 4 ounce glass only has about 4 carbs. Is that correct because it taste so good and so sweet that I just assumed there were more carbs in a 4 ounce glass. Let me know. Thanks a bunch!

Do you mean 'net' carbs? If so, they're the amount of carbs in food after you've deducted the grams of fiber from the grams of carbohydrates. In eating our precious few carbs, it's wisest to choose carbs with the highest fiber (ie: sunflower seeds, low-carb, high fiber fruits, etc.).

That's a new term to me: "active carbs." I can only imagine that it does mean the same as Effective Carbs or Net Carbs, as LilaCotton has suggested. Note that sugar alcohols are not considered to be active carbs that affect blood sugar, but they might. Click on "Low Carb Tips" in the orange stripe at the top of the page and then read Doreen T's excellent article on Sugar Alcohols.
