Default how soon before cardio to eat carbs?

Hi,

I have begun running 3 miles 5 days a week. I'm finding I am having to up my carb level due to this (mostly veg's & berries) otherwise I feel like I'm going to pass out & die. I really want to stay low carb for the most part but want to "carb up" before a run. Does anyone know how soon before I exercise I should eat carbs?

Thanks!

Evey
