Cool high protein & cancer

I've read some vegetarian literature which associate high protein (at least animal protein) with higher risk of cancer. Just wondering if there are any studies out that which link Atkins/Protein Power-type lifeplans with high cancer rates.

Hi Musitech,

I don't know of any research showing high protein levels are associated with cancer, but I do know that cancers have been associated with sugars.

And of course, Atkins and Protein Power don't really advocate "high" protein - just "adequate" protein.

Cheers.

Default Good evening, Musitech...

I can try to clear this up if you can take some rational, objective information.

The reasons some say meat loving people are more prone to cancer are several. One reason is that without adequate fiber the meat stays in your system longer. Another reason is that carcinogens are created the minute meat turns brown. Another reason is that when your body breaks down any food, it creates carcinogens (oxygenation) and since meat has no antioxidants than it has nothing to protect or remove those carcinogens.

But that doesn't mean you can't low carb. A dinner of salmon and broccoli is wonderfully low carb and very tasty. Put butter, not margarine on please. Don't want any of those nasty transfats!

For anyone concerned with cancer, check out the book "Life without Bread" by Drs. Allan and Lutz where cancer is clearly tied in with sugar consumption, not protein.

Well, I agree that there are a lot of diseases connected with our American way of eating and the constant onslaught of insulin.

However, there are many carcinogens out there today that have nothing to do with food and for that reason I advocate getting your antioxidants. Which means low carb or low glycemic vegs/fruits. I fully believe that one of the best remedies to cancer/heart disease is to eat broccoli and an apple every day regardless of what diet you are on.

Also, please remember. If you can afford it and have a natural store near you, get natural meat goods. Our ancestors did not eat protein that was laden with all kinds of chemicals and drugs. As a matter of fact, beef didn't even exist.
