Default Cetogenic diet & epilepsy

Hello all,

I have an epilepsy, "secondary generalised seizures"
I red somewhere that the cetogenic diet is good for cure the epilepsy.
I'm currently taking Depakine Chrono 500 mg / 12 hours.
I want to know what the cetogenic diet is, without searching the web. Primary, to tell me, "what to eat" and what not (E.g. dear Tjodalv, do not eat meat, ..., and eat apples, ... , etc.
Thnx,
Tjodalv

One can low carb without going ketogenic. You may want to give it a try, but if I were you I'd also check into the blood type diet to find out what foods you should emphasize or avoid for your blood type. I am on Atkins/Bernteins diet but I apply a lot of blood type advice to the way I eat. Certain blood types should strongly avoid certain foods such as O-types should avoid wheat and milk products and B-types should avoid chicken/cornish hen (but turkey is ok as it's a different bird), tomatoes and corn. This is not a one-diet-fits-all kind of world, so you'll need to experiment to find out what works best for you.

Hi Tjodalv,

Unfortunately it's not going to be as simple as "eat this, don't eat that."

Ketogenic diets have been used for epileptic children with success for some years now. It has only recently been considered that ketogenic diets may also help adults. However I don't have any details other than the fact that a very high fat diet may be of help.

Children are kept under close medical supervision while on such diets, so I would suggest you ask your doctor if he can help.

And I'm afraid you may have to search the web for more information. The information on this site is mainly about weight loss and improving general help. I haven't seen anyone here on a ketogenic diet to help their epilepsy.

They are very high fat diets. Normal Atkins diets are about 70% fat - these children have diets that are up to 90% fat.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Rosebud
