Default bacon

Are we limited as to how much bacon we can eat per day? I find I'm using that as my snack through out the day; the pork rinds have too much salt and affect my blood pressure.
I find I feel rather light-headed and have a hot flash right before I drop some weight. Does anyone else feel that way?

I think Bacon is a very poor food source. First, it is so high-cal and high-fat, for relatively small portions. Calories do count in this diet. A bunch of bacon can be the difference between losing and not.

Bacon also has a TON of salt in it, which makes me feel ill.

Not to mention the nitrates in it. I do eat bacon, but in moderation - and lately it's been a lower-salt version which I get at Costco here.

I think the salt and nitrates are worse at this stage than the fat or calories.

Its probably not the best snack, but it is certainly one of my favorite ones I snack on it all throughout the day.

I love bacon. I have it in the morning with my eggs or with an Atkins muffin.

However, I have noticed my tastes have changed since I've been low-carbing. I know eat low-sodium bacon because it began tasting too salty.

Macadamia nuts are a wonderful snack. You only need a half-ounce (6 kernels) to keep the hunger away.

While the carbs were higher, you could try some limited snacking on turkey bacon.

Also, if you like crispy meats, you can pan fry up some of your own in olive oil with various spices. Just keep the heat low in the beginning, then pan sear them for the final touch.

Very yummy. You can use ham, beef or whatever you like.

I cure and smoke my own bacon so I can limit the ingredients, maximize the flavor, and choose pork bellies that are meaty. The bacon I make renders essentially no fat in the frying pan. For even leaner bacon, I also make it from pork shoulder and pork loins (Canadian-style bacon).

I usually use the bacon as an ingredient — as in Eggs Benedict or as lardons in the French style. I never thought about snacking on it. Hmmm.
