I have heard that the bodyfat scales are pretty useless, and that having a trainer do the measurements with calipers can also be inaccurate, depending on which trainer you have, exactly which spot on you they pinch, and (if you're female) your TOM.
You're probably right that as you near your goal the scale numbers are going to mean less. The best way to keep an eye on your progress is going to be measurements (chest, waist, hip, arm, leg and neck) and how your clothes are fitting, I think...unless you happen to have access to a water tank for the submersion test
