Question atkins & breastfeeding

Does anyone know the effects breastfeeding has on weight loss while on the atkins diet? I have been on the diet now for 15 days and lost 4 pounds. the last time I did this diet I lost around 10 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I am kind of discouraged! any info would be great!

Hi Misty, welcome to the forum!

Have a look at this page from the Atkins site. They caution that attempting weight loss is not recomended at all while breastfeeding. You need to be eating abundant calories and nutrients for both of you. Eating at maintenance levels is encouraged.

Also note that a repeated attempt at any weight loss plan is rarely as successful as it was the first time. Age isn't kind.

HTH.

Just to let you know I tried doing the atkins diet after I had my third child I did it for 1 month. After about week 3 my baby really didn't want to eat to much I went to the doctor and he said that babies need sugar. Not really sugar but the sugar that is in our body. I was afraid that he was not going to nurse any more. As soon as I went home I didn't eat to much bad carbs but I did eat about 100 carbs a day. And that is not that much. In about 1 week after he started to eat plenty and didn't cry that much. I am just assuming that he was satisfied now.
