I'm in Canada too. We're better off much of the time because Canadian products that have Nutrition labels must declare in 10ths of a gram, which is way more accurate than whole rounded grams like in the States.
Carb "allowance" depends on your plan. Some foods have natural sugars listed on the label, some have added sugars but the amounts are MINISCULE when you check the actual carb gram count per serving , so can use in moderation.
YOU must choose what you can handle based on your own reactions and the LowCarb Plan you are following.
In Canada, Hellman's/Best Foods Real Mayonnaise (not Light) has 0.2g carb per serving. You'd have to eat a LOT of mayonnaise to blow your carb allowance on that.
Hope this helps?
PS: there's a good thread on Mayo in the LowCarb Kitchen, including several recipes for making your own, if you want to guarantee NO SUGARS at all...
