Congradulations on being pregnant!!!

You'll have to work with your doctor on this one...they may be able to recommend an eating plan for you. OR you can have them review the Atkins diet if they aren't familar with it.

I know my pregnant niece was directed by her doctor to go on a modified version of Atkins (it was basically low carb eating but not as severe as the OWL phase) and she was pretty disciplined about it (of course she's skinny normally). While she was here at my house for a visit she drank only water (all the blessed time, too. I had to admire that...had a bottle of water with her constantly) or had a diet rite soda (avoided the caffeine totally), avoided bread and all the sugary stuff (she didn't eat any thing with sugar in it). ate her veggies, avoided fried breaded meats, and she made sure she walked each day for at least one mile. She also took her vitamins faithfully.

So ask your doctor!!! They oughta know how to proceed.

Congratulations!!

Does Diabetes run in your family? I only ask, because in mine, it does and I was pregnant with my son at over 200 lbs and I developed gestational diabetes. If you are worried about this, there should be a nutrionist at your doctors office that can talk with you about a good eating plan to avoid this and weight gain during pregnancy (well, extreme weight gain, almost everyone gains at least a little).

While it's important that you don't try to lose weight while pregnant, you can avoid gaining too much. It's definately something to talk to your doctor about. I wish you the best of luck and congratulations again!!!!

check out the pregnancy area of the forum - there have been 2 new moms on the boards in September (both followed LC during their whole pregnancy) - they did maintenance levels of carbs, tho, so you could also read the maintenance section of DANDR to find out what you should be eating.

Hilary (on the forum) is pregnant and LCing right now, too. Maybe find her and "talk" to her??

Congratulations, btw!!! What a blessing for you
