Default DANGERS of splenda (sucralose)

Just found this article, and thought id throw it out, certainly gives us alot to think about when using splenda based products.

Did you know splenda is made by inserting chlorine molecules into sugar molecules? Heres the article

Great article, thanks for posting. I personally don't trust any artifical sweetner and use them sparingly. The one I use currently is splenda but now I will have to consider that. Boy, I really don't want to give up my low-carb icecream.

If you drink tap water, you're probably drinking a lot more chlorine than using a bit of Splenda. I just can't get too worked up about anything like that I read... it'd drive you nuts in short order.

I'm not sure who originally wrote it, but a good rebuttal was posted by Acohn last time this article came up:

Yes, chlorine is poisonous in its gaseous form. Warring nations have shot it at each other. Drinking pool chlorine probably isn't a good idea, either. But chlorine is half of your table salt, and the chloride ion is one of your body's electrolytes.

This gives me NOTHING to think about. The Splenda scare stories are becoming old news "fast" and I think they are crap.

When the splenda that is sold in the grocery store is made, it is mostly maltodextrin mixed with a very small amount of sucralose. Sucralose is 600 times sweeter than table sugar, and the usage rate is very small.

The Internet health scare stories are usually urban myth, hoaxes and so forth. I'd recommend taking these stories with huge grains of salt.

Beware the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide!

The above link illustrates quite well how when something that most people would consider fairly harmless when spoken of by its common name (ahem....water) is discussed using its chemical formula name....dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) it sounds terribly dangerous. If you can make something like water sound like a substance that we should be rallying in the streets to ban because of the danger presented to the general public by it, imagine how easy it is to make something like Splenda sound like a sweet equivalent to arsenic.
