Does it matter what time of day you eat. Or if you eat most of your food in the afternoon evening. I was wondering if this would affect weight loss or impair it. Some days I cannot eat AT ALL until 4:00pm (for reasons I prefer not to disclose). So then before 9:00 - 10:00pm I get all my food in.

Also what are some legal meats that have carbs in them? I'm betting about 13 and would like to get in my full 20. I'm assuming ALL deli meat is fine unless it has sugar in it.

Sorry for so many questions, but I want to do induction correctly and I am on day 4.

Hi LBDropper!

There are varying opinions on time of eating. Certainly I lived in Spain for many years where people seem to start the day on a coffee and have lunch at about 2:00 pm with an enormous dinner in the late evening. Spanish people are not generally overweight.

Pure meat does not have carbs in it at all. You should be thinking about getting your full 20g of carbs by eating healthy green salad items and low carb veggies. Eggs contain about 1g each by the way.

Processed meats often contain things like nitrates which are not good - although I confess I do eat salami and other processed meat products. Watch out for some sausages and burgers. I don't know what yours in the USA are like but in England they can be full of rusk (dry bread).

If you are losing weight you are doing OK.

Best wishes from a snowy and cold Belarus,

Robert

Hi LBDropper

I just checked out eggs in the carb counter at the right of your screen. 100g of hard boiled egg is 1.12 g carbs. I also weighed a small egg and it was 50g. I guess a large egg would be about 1 gram therefore.

I haven't got my copy of Atkins to hand so I can't check out what he says.

Robert

I'm confused about carbs. Atkins book says one thing and this website says another. Who do I go by?

This site is more accurate about the carbs. The difference is that Atkins was trying to simplify for beginners. Eggs don't have MUCH carbs, so he presented them as one of the foods you can eat till you're full. In small print, under the list of foods acceptible for Induction, he does mention that they have small amounts of carbs, but to go ahead and eat them anyway.

As for times of day to eat/not eat certain foods, the best time to avoid sweets is in the morning. Our bodies produce about twice the amount of needed insulin for our first meal of the day. Therefore, anything you can do to lower that initial insulin response is helpful for long-term weight loss and for controlling blood sugars. Later meals will not have as great an impact on our bodies. And, since sugar alcohols impact some people the same as other sugars, people who are sensitive to these should avoid them in the morning.
