Default Day Two......have Q re avocado

Hello all,

What a great forum!! Thank you, thank you to the members and powers that put it together and work it so hard.

My husband, mother, and I are all starting Atkins. This is day two of induction for me and already have some boo-boos.

Avocado is a Fruit??!! Sheesh. No fruit allowed in induction.

However, how to calculate carbs on 1/2 California Haas? I tried the Carb Inspector -- a bit confusing.

We've got 13.25 fat, 6.39 carb, and 4.32 fiber, 139 calories.

Does that result in an effective carb count of app. 2??

I must admit to going on faith here; it goes against all the nutritional information/myths learned in my 50 years!!

I'm learning from all your posts and hope someone will answer this Q re avocado.

Thanks,
sans

No, don't worry - you avoid the *sweet* fruit. Avacado is fine! Technically, tomatoes, green peppers, zucchini and a whole bunch of other foods that we call "veggies" are fruit. We just associate "fruit" with "sweetness".

Yes, your carb count on the avacado is correct.

Enjoy! Best of luck to the three of you!

Thank you, Kristine!

I was wondering about tomatos too; planted cherry tomatos and have a good crop now ripe on the vine. Glad I can eat some of them.

I didn't know about zucchini tho. Okay, it's the sweet fruits only.

Even tho this is day two, I've had a huge water loss, nearly five pounds, but keeping in perspective that it's the fat I want gone. Any movement on the scale is encouraging...downward, that is <g>.

It's nice to "meet" you.

Hi there!

You're calculation with the avocadoes is correct. I personally, LOVE avocadoes. I love having them next to my nice and juicy steak. I smash it up and add a few drops of lemon and salt.. try it, you might like that. I do the same with tomatoes, salt and lemon! it really is wonderful.

Good luck!

Avocados are on the Atkins list of induction allowed foods. He says you may have half an avocado a day during induction.

I LOVE em. Usually have at least a half of one a day.

Skamito and Zoilyf

I've never eaten so much in two days! I'm almost 51 and have been eating a horrible diet for longer than I can remember. Let's see, popcorn is at the bottom of the food pyramid, right? g>

Anyway, I've noticed my energy level way up from what I thought was my now old-body norm. It would be great if the old-body norm was really the abnormal fatigued one due to horrid food consumption.

Thanks for your advice.
